In Reiki sessions, music is often used as a gentle background layer—something that supports relaxation without pulling attention away from the practice. In this interview, we spoke with Dan Serretti, also known as Reiki Dan, a music creator whose tracks are designed for inward-focused practices like Reiki, meditation, and restorative sessions.
Dan’s work is royalty-free for practitioner use, which makes it easy to include in personal sessions, group work, and classes.
About Reiki Dan
Reiki Dan creates immersive, Reiki-infused meditation music designed to calm the mind and support inward-focused sessions. His tracks use carefully chosen frequencies and layered sound elements (multiple soft sounds blended together) to create a steady, calming atmosphere, with the intention of easing emotional tension, supporting energetic balance, and inviting a deeper sense of peace.
ReikiAll: Dan, can you tell us about your background and what led you to create meditation music specifically for Reiki sessions?
Reiki Dan: Music has always held a special place in my life—both as a listener and a creator. After hearing the ambient music that my wife, a Reiki master, often uses as part of her practice, I felt that I could create my own flavor of that music. What resulted was something that, to me, often sounds like a cosmic orchestra, which is why I refer to it as “classmic” music—a combination of classical and cosmic music, to coin a new subgenre.
My initial idea was to take a clinical and creative approach by structuring tracks that would target energy centers with specific resonances, pace, and intentions, through a combination of scientific and more esoteric practices. Then that grew into targeting emotional and spiritual states as well, which seems to be just as effective as the energy center work.
During the nine months I was creating this music, I really enjoyed listening to the tracks for my own personal use, and I knew that if my wife liked it too, then maybe it had potential to be enjoyable or useful for others. When I shared it with friends, I was told that it produced vivid inner imagery—especially when experienced right before bed or in a relaxed state.
My next thought was: in what environments could these tracks be best used to help people and bring a calming presence? My first ideas were, obviously, during Reiki or meditation sessions, and also in yoga studios, spas, and other calm spaces. I think there is also utility simply as calming background music that can be played anywhere, anytime.
ReikiAll: When you compose for practices like Reiki and meditation, what are the main things you pay attention to in the music itself? Also, when you say “Reiki-infused,” what do you mean by that in practical terms?
Reiki Dan: I put a lot of creativity, care, and effort into both the composition process and the Reiki infusion of the tracks. My process starts with defining the theme—for example, “Solar Plexus Healing and Balance”—and then being open to receiving information that I use to generate chord progressions on guitar, sometimes in very obscure tunings, which helps with the “robustness” of the compositions.
From there, I do the technical arrangement. That involves deconstructing the chords into notes and patterns, selecting instruments for each pattern, setting the beats per minute for the track, and shaping the frequencies created by the interplay of the instruments and voices. I may also add binaural beats, nature sounds (ocean waves, birds, insects, etc.), and other details that best serve the theme.
The recording and mixing usually takes 1–2 days. Finally, we do the Reiki infusion using a process my wife and I developed, based on her expertise.
ReikiAll: Where would you like people to find you and your work? Also, if you have any additional info feel free to share that too.
Reiki Dan: I’m including a short guide (PDF) I created with some background on using sound to support inward states, suggested use cases for the tracks, and a simple “menu” to help choose tracks based on what someone is looking to support. For example, if you’re feeling anxious or scattered, you could listen to “Hope and Fear – Living in the Present” and “Root Grounding with Heart Compassion.” If you’re looking to support creativity, you could try “Sacral Creativity and Feeling Energy Flow” and “Manifesting with Clear Intentions.” And if you’re seeking guidance, clarity, or inner knowledge, you could listen to “3rd Eye Activation” and “Answers Thru Search and Meditation.”
In total, there are 28 tracks, ranging from 12 to 35 minutes. You can find my work at Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud and YouTube.
